Traditionally, retirement plan trustees and consultants have used Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) as the basis of their investment selections for plan participants. Recently, however, MPT has faced increased scrutiny for not providing sufficient downside protection in times of stock market downturn. We believe that investing according to relative strength calculations provides better opportunities for success, as well as a rules-based approach for downside protection.
